News Of The Week
Stay safe out there ladies! 🤒

Health
So we’ve all heard of Covid, right? 😷 The headlines will have you believing it’s a distant memory. But it’s still very much here. A recent report found that Covid reinfection has serious physical and mental health risks. Like diabetes, lung and kidney problems, blood clots and the development of long Covid. It’s not pretty and it gets worse.
Almost 80% of those with long Covid are women. And women of colour are likely to suffer the most prevailing conditions 😫 So, stay safe out there and when in doubt, wear a mask.
Entertainment
On a lighter note 🎵 Grammy nominations for 2023 are here! We see some seriously talented women of colour on the list. Here’s looking at you Arooj Aftab, Anoushka Shankar, Angélique Kidjo, Bey, Doja and Lizzo (to name a few). If that doesn’t warm your soul, then Angela Alvarez will. The 95-year-old, who was forbidden to be a musician when she was a child, is nominated for a Latin Grammy!

Trailblazing Woman Interview
On Being Your True Self: In Conversation With Lana Patel

Image: supplied.
This week is Transgender Awareness Week. It’s here to raise the visibility of transgender people and address issues members of the community face.
In the spirit of Transgender Awareness Week, we’re re-sharing our interview with Lana Patel. We had the pleasure of chatting with Lana last year. She shared how heritage has influenced the woman she is today, her experience transitioning to her identity and her excellent tip for loving the skin you’re in.
And if you don’t read it, I hope you enjoy this beautiful and powerful quote from Lana:
When it comes to loving the skin you’re in, it’s about figuring out what brings you joy and knowing that that is the thing that will help you in times of distress or uncertainty. Figuring that out for yourself will help you to realign and remind yourself how beautiful and powerful you are.
