Celebrating our wins 👏🏽

Politics

We’re (slowly) taking over 🙌🏽 It’s 2023. And for the first time ever women are sitting in every parliament on earth! We’re also seeing more women of colour and members of the LGBTQIA+ community running in elections. Here for it!

Of course, it’s not all sunshine and rainbows. We’ve made progress for sure. But there’s still a way to go to achieve equal representation. The global share of women in parliament currently at 26.5% (might be time for all countries to take a page out of Spain’s book). Plus women of colour, people with disabilities and our LGBTQIA+ friends continue to face additional systemic barriers to entry.

Barbie meets STEM 👩🏽‍🔬 Barbie released seven new dolls for International Women’s Day, honouring trailblazing women in STEM. Among the impressive lineup is Dr. Maggie Aderin-Pocock. Aka, the first Black woman to win gold at the Physics News Awards. And, Katya Echazarreta, the first Mexican-born woman to travel to space 🚀 Check out the honourees here.

Meet The Women Who Are Revolutionising The Tech Industry

ICYMI, yesterday (8 March) was International Women’s Day (IWD).

IWD is a time to celebrate the progress made towards achieving gender equality and women's empowerment. But also to critically reflect (and with an intersectional lens) on those accomplishments and strive for a greater momentum towards gender equality worldwide.

This year’s IWD theme focussed on the digital age, and leveraging technology to achieve gender equality and empower women and girls globally.
